Box ScorePurchase, NY (April 8, 2015) – The Purchase baseball team pounded out a season-high 26 hits in a 22-9 non-conference victory over Lehman College, snapping a four-game losing streak, Thursday evening.All nine starters collected at least one hit for the Panthers (7-7) including
Elan Trischitta (SR/Saugerties, NY) and
Chris Triano (JR/Greenwich, CT), who had three hits apiece. Trischitta went 4-for-5 with one RBI and four runs scored while Triano was 4-for-5 at the plate, including two doubles and a triple, with two RBI and two runs.
Triano tripled to bring
Jay Ruiz (SR/Bronx, NY) around to score to open up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. A RBI sacrifice fly out to right field by
Patrick Rucci (SO/Cortlandt Manor, NY) would bring Triano in to score and a
Michael Tecci (SO/Stratford, CT) RBI single would give the Panthers a 3-0 lead heading into the second inning. After holding Lehman scoreless in the top of the second, Purchase tallied another three runs in the bottom half of the inning off a 3-run double hit by
Teofilo Ramirez (JR/Queens, NY).
Lehman (9-10) rallied to tie the game at seven in the top of the fourth inning but Purchase answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Panther offense really came alive and plated eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 19-8 advantage.
Purchase went on to score three more in the seventh inning, including triples from
Mathew Chavez (JR/Queens, NY) and
Taylor Ringold (SO/South Setauket, NY). The Lightning tallied a single run in eighth to round out the scoring, 22-9, in favor of the Panthers.
Senior pitcher
Christian Knochen (Cornwall, NY) (1-1) earned his first win of the season for Purchase after three innings of relief action on the mound. Knochen allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Lightning relief pitcher Matthew Brown was tagged with the loss after giving up 12 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits with three walks over three innings on the mound.
Purchase returns to its home field this Friday for a non-conference game against SUNY Cortland. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
