(Sept. 19, 2015) – The Purchase College women's tennis team earned its second straight win after a 5-4 victory over non-conference Pratt Institute Saturday afternoon on the Purchase tennis courts. The Panthers advance to 2-1 on the season while the Cannoneers drop to 0-3 with the loss.
Purchase captured two out of three doubles matches to jump out to a 2-1 lead. The Panthers' No. 2 doubles flight tandem of
Caroline Haldeman-Emmerling (JR/Miami, FL) and
Catherine Pasquale (SO/Valhalla, NY) posted an 8-1 victory, while freshmen
Nadia Shadi (New York, NY) and
Nastaja Stepec (New York, NY) teamed for an 8-2 win at the third spot.
At first doubles, juniors
Emma Yavel (Brooklyn, NY) and
Erika Fulton (Wallingford, CT) battled Agata Jakubowksa and Melanie Kania but came up short, 9-8 (10-8), in the tie-breaker set.
In singles play, Fulton and
Maggie Lavin (SO/Rockaway Beach, NY) each won in straight sets at the third and sixth flights, respectively, to stake the Panthers to a 4-3 advantage. Senior
Roula Zyada (Cairo, Egypt) tallied a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the No. 5 spot to secure the fifth and deciding point.
Jakubowksa, Kania and Neeka Gilardian garnered singles wins for the visitors at the first, second and fourth flights, respectively.
Purchase is back in action tomorrow with a home match against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn starting at noon.
