Harrison, NY
(Oct. 13, 2018) – Not even a new home court could slow up the Purchase College women's tennis team.
The Panthers kept rolling Saturday night, improving to 9-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in Skyline Conference play, downing rival Farmingdale State, 8-1, indoors at Life Time Athletic. The home match was a reschedule following a weather postponement earlier in the week, and then was moved indoors to the fitness center in Harrison with inclement weather in the forecast Saturday.
The Panthers were undeterred, sweeping heavyweight FSC in doubles play to start the match strong. The loss dropped the talented Rams to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in league.
Bianca Harris (FR/Montgomery, NY) and
Grace Bradshaw (FR/Ossining, NY) won 9-8 (7-1) in a marathon thriller at No. 1.
Abigail Cuddy (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) and
Raquelle DeCicco (SO/Kingston, NY) followed suit at No. 2 with an 8-4 victory.
Nadia Shadi (SR/New York, NY) and
Alivia Cagliano (FR/Mastic Beach, NY) collected an 8-5 win at No. 3.
Bradshaw then earned a win at first singles. She posted a 3-1 retirement. Cagliano won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, giving Purchase a 4-1 lead after losing at No. 6. Bradshaw's victory increased the margin to 5-1.
Purchase never looked back.
From there, Harris won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 and DeCicco earned a win at No. 3 (6-4, 6-3). Cuddy also won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5.
Red-hot Purchase returns to action Monday back on campus, where the team will celebrate Senior Night in a 6 p.m. start.
