PURCHASE, N.Y. - After a lost season in 2020 and a shortened return-to-play campaign in 2021, the Purchase College baseball team is finally returning to a full slate of games for the 2022 season.
In all, the Panthers are scheduled to play 38 contests over the next three months, beginning today (February 23rd) at William Paterson University.
From there, the squad travels south to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for five games at The Ripken Experience, before returning to the Northeast for the rest of their season.
The first home game of the year is on March 9th against Eastern Connecticut State University at 3 p.m.
11 days later, the Panthers open Skyline Conference play at Yeshiva University, before welcoming Mount Saint Vincent on March 26th for the first home conference game of the year.
Finally, Purchase concludes its home slate with back-to-back Senior Day Ceremonies, as the Panthers will honor the Class of 2020 on April 23rd and the 2022 seniors the following day.Â
As for the individuals that will makeup the Class of 2022 later this spring, Purchase has seven seniors in total -
Jemal Betances (Bronx, NY),
James May (Floral Park, NY),
Connor O'Rourke (Massapequa, NY),
Alex Miller (Reno, NV),
Max Vera (Bethpage, NY),
James Shea (Brooklyn, NY) and
Alex Doskoez (Eastport, NY).
May and Shea are set to lead the Panthers' offense this season, after combining for 45 hits and 17 RBIs last year. On the mound, Doskoez will serve as Purchase's ace following his breakout performance from a year ago.Â
In 2021, he led the team in innings pitched (50.0), strikeouts (38), wins (4) and complete games (4).Â
Returning for his ninth season at the helm is head coach
Adam Taraska, who is just one win away from triple digits for his career. Joining the former Skyline Conference Coach of the Year in the dugout is the same coaching staff from 2021 -Â
Mark Jurczak,
JR Causa and
Ryan Cole.Â
