Panthers Coast at YU, Improve to 4-0

Perfect Start Continues on the Road

New York, NY (Nov. 26, 2012) – Longtime rival Yeshiva was no contest Monday night, as Purchase opened league play on the road, winning 72-51 at the Max Stern Athletic Center.

Purchase (4-0, 1-0 Skyline Conference) jumped out to a 35-21 halftime score and finished off the contest with 37 second-half points for the comfortable double-digit victory. YU drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the Skyline.   

Guard Andre Nixon (JR/Harlem, NY) sparked the lineup, netting a game-high 21 off the bench. Center Joel Neri (SO/Port Chester, NY) added 16 points and Justin Person (JR/Greenburgh, NY) grabbed 11 rebounds in the win for Purchase. John Pressley (SR/New York, NY) was also impressive, scoring 12 and dishing a game-high seven assists.  

The Panthers outscored the Macs 32-22 in the paint and also scored 18 points off turnovers, while limiting YU to nine points off turnovers.

The visitors also received a tremendous boost from their bench play, totaling 26 points from the pine, highlighted by Nixon's sterling performance.  

The game was only tied once early before the Panthers opened their largest lead of the game – a 22-point burst midway through the second period.   

YU was paced by Dovie Hoffman and Benjy Ritholtz, who each scored 14.

First-place Purchase will look to make it 5-0 at SUNY Maritime next time out on Saturday, Dec. 1.
