Purchase, NY (Dec. 3, 2012) – Women's basketball went toe-to-toe with the College of Staten Island Monday night in Purchase's home opener, but the visiting Dolphins managed to put some distance between them and the Panthers in the second half en route to a 63-50 win.

CSI (3-3) spoiled the Panthers' home opener in the process after both teams matched baskets over the first 20 minutes. The Dolphins led 26-23 at half before separating themselves over the first 10 minutes of the second period. The second-half burst would erase an early Panther lead.

In a close contest, it was the little things that allowed CSI to come away with the win. Purchase turned the ball over 21 times, while CSI committed 17 turnovers. The Panthers were also narrowly outrebounded, 43-34, including 18-10 on the offensive glass, where the Dolphins generated some second-chance points.

CSI was paced by Megan Myhre and Olivia Tierno, who finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively. The Dolphins connected on five 3-pointers, highlighted by four key 3s from Myhre.

Foul trouble also plagued the Panthers, who lost two starters late in a tight game, having both foul out. The tandem of Jess Lindsay (JR/Rochester, NY) and Jalisa Fields (SR/Bronx, NY) performed well in defeat for the Panthers. Lindsay scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss, while Fields posted 10 points and eight rebounds.

Purchase (1-5) will now travel to Farmingdale State Wednesday.
