Farmingdale, NY (Dec. 5, 2012) – The Purchase College men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, Wednesday, falling to Farmingdale State 78-57 at Farmingdale.

The Panthers are now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Skyline Conference play.

Purchase started out strong, taking an 18-13 lead 13 minutes into the game, but Farmingdale then went on a 5-0 run to even the score at 18 apiece. The first half saw six lead changes, with Farmingdale State heading into the locker room at half with a slim 26-25 lead at the break.

Farmingdale State opened the second half on an 11-2 run to quickly extend the lead to 37-27 with 17:26 remaining and would keep the lead the rest of the game.

For Purchase, big man Craig Davis (SR/Queens, NY) had a team-high 16 points, while forward David Haughton (JR/Greenburgh, NY) had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Guard Andre Nixon (JR/Harlem, NY) had seven rebounds to go along with eight points for the Panthers in defeat.

Purchase suffered through a cold shooting evening, hitting on only 33.3 percent of its shots overall and 11 percent of its shots from three-point range.

"We just didn't play well tonight," said Purchase associate head coach Chad Charney. "We need to play tougher, but everything happens for a reason and it's just five games into the season.

"We have a long road ahead of us and we need to improve from here on out," Charney added. "This could just be the wake-up call we needed. From here, we need to focus on Sage and end the semester with two victories."

The Panthers return home to host Sage this Saturday in their home opener, with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
