(Feb. 17, 2012) – Men's volleyball made a valiant effort at extending their match to a fourth set on Friday night at home, but a late charge stalled in the third as visiting Albertus Magnus captured a 3-0 win.
After a very quick first and second set, the Panthers were a new team in the third, but after losing an epic point at 22-22, the Falcons won the next two points to sweep the match by a score of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-22.
The Panthers (1-7) were led by standout outside hitter
Kevon Kareem Bruce (SR/Hayes, Jamaica), who notched 11 kills. Teammates
Mateo Morel (SR/Bronx, NY) and
Blake Borysewicz (FR/Brooklyn, NY) each recorded five kills.
Purchase setter
Alex Billen-Calhoun (JR/Niskayuna, NY) led Purchase with an impressive 30 assists.
Brendan Charamut had a match-high 14 kills for the visitors. Albertus Magnus' Carlos Torres also had a match-high 40 assists in the win.
Purchase has lost five straight and will now try to get back on track next Thursday night against Kean University.
