Men's Tennis Jumps into Win Column

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY (Mar. 10, 2012) – The Panthers bounced back from a season-opening defeat by toppling rival Bard College on the road Saturday.

Purchase (1-1), which lost to powerhouse Baruch College in its season and home opener during the week, soundly defeated the Raptors, 7-2, in a non-league match today.  It was the first match of the spring season for Bard (1-3) – a former Skyline Conference foe.

Bard's victories came at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Brian Bollman topped Roger King* (JR/Yonkers, NY) at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1, and Joel Richmond bested Maxim Luiggi* (SR/Paris, France) at No. 4, 6-0, 6-3.

Purchase swept the three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Brendan Keeling (JR/Ontario, Canada) and King edged Alexandre Khondji and Bollman, 8-6. Jeremy Schur (FR/Forest Hills, NY) and Luiggi added an 8-3 win at No. 2, and Simon Lai (JR/Garrison, NY) and Chris Matchneer (JR/Larchmont, NY) swept, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.  

Schur won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, while Michael Sorge (FR/Bronx, NY) returned from injury and started his Panther career on the right foot with another sweep – 6-0, 6-0. Ben Ekis (SR/Rochester, NY) wrapped the afternoon of singles in a 6-0, 6-0 victory himself.
