Purchase, NY (Apr. 17, 2012) – Women's softball cruised past the College of New Rochelle Tuesday, sweeping both ends of a late afternoon twin bill at home. The Panthers dominated the Blue Angels 12-0 and 12-0, respectively, improving to 8-16 on the spring.

Fueled by six walks, Purchase and its keen batting eye jumped out to a comfortable 12-0 lead in the first inning of game one. The opening frame was highlighted by three triples off the bats of Cassandra Armstrong (SO/Schenectady, NY), Lindsay Froman (SR/Medina, NY) and Juliet-Rain Pagan (SO/Bronx, NY).

With the lead well in hand, Armstrong pitched a five-inning, complete game shutout. The young right-hander allowed only one hit en route to victory.

The Panthers kept rolling in game two, starting strong right away in the first inning. Aided by three straight leadoff walks, Purchase scored six quick runs. The frame was highlighted by an inside the park, two-run home run by Alyse LaPadula (SR/New Rochelle, NY), which plated Froman. Froman and Armstrong once again tripled in the first, setting an early tone for the hosts, which scored another 12 first-inning runs.

LaPadula added a run-scoring triple in the first as the Panthers ran away with the contest.

Christine Leo (SO/Monroe, CT) took the hill for the Panthers in game two and duplicated Armstrong's complete game shutout. In the top of the fourth, Leo allowed her first hit of the game. But CNR's base runner was quickly stranded with two outs on a fine running grab in right field by Christina Sanderson (SO/Schaghticoke, NY) that could have scored a run. With a runner on first, Sanderson prevented the ball from getting down in the gap, preserving the shutout.

Offensively, the Panthers were paced by LaPadula in game two. She hit two triples and one home run in the finale, accounting for three of the team's nine hits.

Purchase returns to action Friday in a rescheduled matchup with NYU-POLY. First pitch for the conference doubleheader is 3 p.m.
