Bronx, NY (Apr. 21, 2012) – Women's softball concluded its season Saturday at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, falling 4-3 in eight innings in the opener before bouncing back, 7-2, in game two to finish the season on a high note.

In game one, Mount Saint Vincent went up 2-0 with two runs in the home half of the third inning. Marni O'Shea drove home both runs with a two-out single in the frame. The two-run lead would hold up until Purchase tied the score with two runs of its own in the top of the seventh. Cassandra Armstrong (SO/Schenectady, NY) and Alexis Vallario (JR/Yonkers, NY) plated the two clutch runs for the Panthers.

After the Dolphins went scoreless in their half of the seventh, the Panthers took their first lead of the game with a run in the eighth when Abigail Katz (JR/Livingston, NJ) crossed on an error.

Trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Mount Saint Vincent rallied with two runs to sneak away with the game-one win. Leeann Cerbone tied the score at 3-3 when she plated Joanna Makayan with a single and O'Shea later won the game when she pushed Cerbone across with her third RBI of the afternoon.

Mariel Perez (SR/Queens, NY) led the way for Purchase in game one, finishing with three hits. Alyse LaPadula (SR/New Rochelle, NY) and Christine Leo (SO/Monroe, CT) each added two hits apiece.

In game two, Mount Saint Vincent fell behind early as Purchase pushed across all seven of its runs in its first two at-bats. Leo got the scoring started in the first with a run-scoring triple and Perez added an RBI single in a three-run first inning. Purchase extended its lead to 7-0 in the second with Perez and LaPadula each recording a run-scoring base hit in the frame.

The Dolphins would get on the board with their only two runs of the game in the home half of the third.

Katz paced Purchase from the leadoff spot in the order, going 3 for 5 with one run and one RBI. Perez matched the three-hit effort, adding two RBI in her final collegiate game. LaPadula, a fellow senior, also recorded three hits in her last college swings as a Panther softball player. Rachael Popovic (SR/Baldwin, NY) went 2 for 4 with a run scored in her last game as well.

Purchase finishes the season at 9-19.
