(Jan. 16, 2013) – And yet another win for the Purchase women's basketball team, as they motored past the College of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday evening, 78-59, driving the Panthers to a record of 7-2 over their last nine games.
Back-to-back buckets gained the Dolphins a small lead within minutes of the first half. The two teams would trade the lead three times until the Panthers put together an 11-0 run, covering nearly two minutes, to take a 27-17 lead with just over 10 minutes left before the half.
Jessica Biggs (SR/Nanuet, NY) canned a triple and
Jess Lindsay (JR/Rochester, NY) scored four points over that stretch for the Panthers.
Purchase would not surrender the lead again in the game and pushed out to a 14-point lead with 2:41 on the first-half clock following a
Talia Beaulieu (SR/Waldorf, MD) three-point field goal.
The Mount would close the opening frame with seven of the final nine points, including a triple from Desiree Rosa, to cut the deficit to nine points after 20 minutes of play.
Although the Dolphins shot 43.2 percent from the floor in the first half, they allowed five three-point field goals from the Panthers and were outscored from the free-throw line, 14-3.
Lindsay led all scorers at the break with 14 points for Purchase.
After falling behind by 13 points on a Lindsay conversion with 16:05 showing on the clock, Mount Saint Vincent battled back to get within six points following a quick 9-2 spurt.
With the Dolphins as close as they would get the remainder of the night, Purchase spread the lead to a game-high 23 points after a 21-6 stretch covering 11:15.
The Dolphins would score just 10 points over the final 13:39 of the tilt.
The Panthers finished the game with a balanced scoring attack and showed five different players in double-figures.
Lindsay led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Beaulieu added 14 points and matched the game-high with five assists.
Lineker St.Hilaire (SO/Wyandanch, NY) led all players with five steals and added 12 points.
Overall on the night, Purchase converted on 41.8 percent of its field goal chances, while the Dolphins shot 39.1 percent from the floor.
The Mount finished 1 of 08 from behind the arc and misfired on 11 free-throw attempts.
Purchase held the advantage in points off of turnovers after converting 28 Mount Saint Vincent miscues into 25 points.
The win brings Purchase to a .500 record in Skyline Conference play, while Mount Saint Vincent remains winless in the conference.
The Panthers return to the court on Saturday as they travel to Brooklyn for a noon tip-off against NYU-POLY.
