Knights Upend Purchase

Newburgh, NY (Jan. 22, 2013) – A hot shooting night from Chris Pisciotta lifted Mount Saint Mary to a 71-57 win over Purchase
.
The junior totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead MSMC. The Knights have now won five of the their last six to improve to 10-6 overall (7-3 Skyline Conference), while the Panthers drop back to 12-3 overall (6-3 Skyline).

Leading by four (20-16) with 8:37 remaining in the opening half, the Knights closed the half on a 22-6 run and carried a 42-22 advantage into the break. Joe Stabach hit on three triples in the opening twenty minutes and led all scorers with 11 points at the half.

Purchase attempted to make things interesting by opening the second half on a 7-0 run.  Stabach was quick to answer, however, knocking down a 3-pointer with 16:27 to go to stretch the lead back to 16.  The Knights maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. 

Pisciotta turned in a terrific performance at both ends of the floor. He hit on 5 of 10 from the field, including a key 3-pointer in the second half, and went 4 of 4 at the line to finish with 15 points. Stabach led the Knights with 16 points on the strength of 4-of-11 from three.

Justin Person (JR/Greenburgh, NY) led Purchase with 14 points. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The Panthers return to action Thursday at home, when they welcome YU for an 8 p.m. start.
