Purchase, NY (Feb. 12, 2013) – Resembling Olympic champ Usain Bolt , the Purchase College men's basketball team raced out of the starting block Tuesday night against NYU-POLY and got to the finishing line with ease in a resounding home court 92-59 win.

With Craig Davis (SR/Queens, NY) and Joel Neri (SO/Port Chester, NY) dominating inside and Andre Nixon (JR/Harlem, NY) showing a hot hand from the outside, the Panthers sprinted out to a 15-2 lead in the game's first six minutes, then opened that lead to 23-7 at the 8:39 mark. During that run, Nixon hit three 3-pointers and two foul shots, as the Panthers never looked back and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Nixon – who was fouled four times while taking 3-pointers during the game – led Purchase in scoring with 24 points. Neri chipped in with 12 points, and David Haughton (JR/Greenburgh, NY) added 11 points.

In all, 12 Panthers scored at least three points in the contest, as coach Jeff Charney was able to spread lots of playing time around in the 33-point margin win that took the Purchase overall record to 18-5 and 12-4 in the Skyline Conference.

NYU-POLY (7-16 overall and 3-13 in conference) was led in scoring on the evening by Thomas Fabian, who had 11 points.  Jamel Gist, Jethro Auguste and Ed Klementowicz chipped in with nine points each.

Purchase dominated the boards, grabbing 41 rebounds to NYU-POLY's 28. Purchase shot 52.8 percent from the field.

Looking to solidify a top seed in the conference playoffs and its current third spot in the D3hoops.com regional rankings, Purchase travels to the Bronx on Thursday to take on SUNY Maritime before heading back to Purchase for a noon Senior Day contest on Saturday against St. Joseph's College-LI.
