(Feb. 19, 2013) – Sage muscled its way to a straight sets win Tuesday night at Purchase.
The 10-2 Gators had no easy time in the first set, with the Panthers staying in the match early, but Sage recovered and dominated the middle set of a 3-0 win en route to set scores of 25-14, 25-5, 25-14. The loss drops Purchase to 1-8 on the season.
Sage is also now 5-1 in Skyline play, while the Panthers remain winless in conference.
Although the second set got away, Purchase, led by
Kevon Kareem Bruce (JR/Hayes, Jamaica), who had some hard hits and strong kills on the evening, could not muster enough to keep pace with Sage, one the league's elite teams. Bruce would pace the Panthers with nine kills. Setter
Alex Billen-Calhoun (SR/Niskayuna, NY) handed out a team-high 17 assists in the loss.
Thomas DeCarlo (JR/Glen Cove, NY) played well defensively for Purchase, registering seven digs.
For Sage, Dylan Krowicki notched 10 kills in the win. Setter Kyle Ray dished a match-high 28 assists, including a majority to Krowicki.
Sage hit an impressive .733 in the second set, which clinched some late momentum after a tough contest in the opening set of play. Meanwhile, the Panthers, who hit .238 in the first and .263 in the third, hit -.438 in a momentum-shifting second set.
The Gators totaled 35 kills for the night, limiting their errors to six, while forcing Purchase into 15.
