(Mar. 18, 2013) – The Purchase College women's softball team jumped into the win column in a big way Monday afternoon at Lehman College, lighting up the scoreboard for 13 runs in an impressive 13-3 win over the Lightning.
In doing so, the Panthers earned their first win of the season before inclement weather called off game two at the South Field in the Bronx. Purchase collected 10 hits on the afternoon in game one, highlighted by three hits from newcomer
Alexandra Prescia (FR/Staten Island, NY) and two apiece from
Alexis Vallario (SR/Yonkers, NY) and
Juliet-Rain Pagan (JR/Bronx, NY).
Pagan, a Bronx native, put together a great performance at the plate blocks away from her neighborhood. Vallario is also starting to come together offensively, showing the same glimpses of promise she had during her high school career.
Vallario collected three RBI and one run in the victory. Prescia and Pagan both tripled in the game, with Prescia collecting two triples on the afternoon.
Christina Sanderson (JR/Schaghticoke, NY),
Abigail Katz (SR/Livingston, NJ) and
Cassandra Armstrong (JR/Schenectady, NY) also collected hits, while
Kristy Colangelo (FR/Staten Island, NY),
Christine Leo (JR/Monroe, CT) and
Tara Stiansen (FR/Hampton Bays, NY) collected RBIs.
In addition, Leo earned the win on the mound. She struck out five over five innings in a game that was eventually called by run-rule.
The visiting Panthers (1-3) scored in every inning, including a six-run third. The game had been tied at 2-2 at the time. The Lightning got two runs in the second inning in their season-opening loss.
