Undefeated FSC Captures Win

Rain Calls Off Remainder of Match

Box Score

Purchase, NY (Apr. 10, 2013) – A highly anticipated rematch of last spring's championship between Farmingdale State and Purchase was marred from the very start from, at least from the Panther perspective, with an injury to No. 1 Jeremyah Schur, and later with uncooperative weather.

But tip your hat to the powerhouse Rams, who remain the team to beat in the conference. FSC, which improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the league Wednesday night, topped Purchase 7-0, overcoming some very close set scores for the victory.

The two elite programs are likely on another collision course for the final. Purchase entered the contest at 6-2 and 1-0 in conference play, but is now 6-3 and 1-1 in the Skyline. Both teams are on track for the postseason, but tonight's loss may have pushed the Panthers outside of a possible No. 1 seed for the tournament, depending on how the remainder of the regular season plays out.

Schur (SO/Forest Hills, NY) was hampered throughout and defaulted at No. 1 singles, losing 3-1 to Justin Vijungco.

However, Schur and Brenden Keeling (SR/Ontario, Canada) hung around long enough in first doubles to show their mettle against Vijungco and Ryan Musalo. The Panther tandem, which dropped the first point, but rebounded and led early, would go on to loss 9-7 in one of the highlights for the hosts, who are hoping to have another shot at top-ranked FSC in the tournament.

Keeling's singles match with Musalo at No. 2 went unfinished when the skies opened and rains came pouring down. The match had already been decided, with FSC winning 7-0. No. 4 singles also went unfinished.

FSC's Alex Bessarabov won third singles and Judd Bahoui took fourth singles. Bradley Smith topped Simon Lai (SR/Garrison, NY) 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 to complete the effort for the visitors.

Lai and doubles partner Pocholo Chavez (JR/Stony Point, NY) also pushed their combo at No. 3 doubles, producing a 9-7 loss, as Bahoui and Smith edged the two in another exciting doubles pairing. FSC would sweep the doubles in an 8-3 final at No. 2.

Purchase will look to rebound this Saturday at MSMC in another key conference matchup with the Knights.
