(Apr. 10, 2013) – The Purchase College softball team dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader to Farmingdale State Wednesday afternoon at home.
Impressive hitting allowed the Rams to steal a 13-1 victory in game one before taking a commanding 9-1 win in the finale.
In the opener, Farmingdale put the Panthers in an early hole, scoring three runs in each of the first three innings and then four in the top of the fourth. Catcher Meagan Anderson was credited with the game's biggest hit on a home run that brought three runs in to score in the third inning.
Purchase's only run of the game came off a single by
Tara Stiansen (FR/Hampton Bays, NY), which plated
Christina Sanderson (JR/Schaghticoke, NY).
On the mound for the Panthers,
Christine Leo (JR/Monroe, CT) went five innings, giving up 14 hits and walking three.
In game two, Leo went 2 for 2 with a double in the sixth. She would come in to score off a single by
ToniAnn Licata (SO/Mount Kisco, NY).
For the Rams, Michelle Mongiello had an impressive game, going 4 for 5 with a double.
Purchase looks to get back on track this weekend, beginning with a conference doubleheader Saturday at Sage (noon start).
