Purchase, NY (Jan. 11, 2014) – Andre Nixon netted 27 points to catapult the No. 18 Purchase College men's basketball team to an 82-64 victory over visiting non-conference foe Manhattanville College Saturday evening.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 10-0 overall; a record the program has never reached until this year.
The Panthers led for most of the game, with Nixon (SR/Harlem, NY) going off for 16 of his total points in the second half and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.
Brandon Sillaro (JR/Patchogue, NY), David Haughton (SR/Greenburgh, NY) and Ryan Lobban (SR/Bronx, NY) pitched in with eight points apiece. For Sillaro, this was his first appearance on the Purchase home court.
The Panthers out rebounded the Valiants, 44-25, especially dominating their defensive boards, 32-19.
Purchase got to the free-throw line 19 times, while sending Manhattanville to the charity stripe 21 times. The Panthers shot an impressive 89.5 percent from the line, as the Valiants hit 52.4 percent.
Purchase, who led 39-26 at the half, scored 13 of the first 17 points of the second period to take a 53-32 lead.
The Panthers led by as much as 24 later in the game.
Anthony Maestre led the Valiants with a team-high 24 points. Jack Bramswig added 16 points and eight rebounds, respectively.
The Panthers return to Skyline action Tuesday as they travel to SUNY Maritime College.
