(Nov. 22-23, 2014) – The Purchase College men's basketball team lost two games on the weekend in the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic.
Catholic University defeated Purchase 69-62 in Sunday's finale, while Cabrini College posted a 90-65 final Saturday.
For Catholic, Austin Calling posted the second double-double of his career with 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks to complement Bryson Fonville's game-high 26 points at Owings Mills Gymnasium. It was CUA's third straight victory after its season-opening loss at Division I Davidson on Nov. 15.
Calling had 10 points and six boards in the Cards' win over Gwynedd Mercy in Friday's opening game of the Stevenson University-hosted tournament, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.
Creig Graves (JR/Harlem, NY) paced the Panthers with 18 points.
Nicholas Jackson (JR/Brooklyn, NY) added 10 points and seven boards and
Taylor Foster (JR/Greenburgh, NY) contributed 10 points and five assists for Purchase.
In the loss to Cabrini, six Cavaliers tallied at least eight points, as the No. 20-ranked team in NCAA DIII improved to 2-1 on the season. Ace Henry led the Cavaliers with a career high 18 points, including five 3-pointers. Teammate Aaron Walton-Moss nearly recorded his second triple-double in as many games, recording 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
The Cavaliers shot nearly 51% from the field in the game, including a blistering 58% from the floor in the second half. The blue and White also connected on a season high 12 3s.
Foster led Purchase with 27 points in the loss.
The Panthers (0-5) will now return to Purchase for their home opener Tuesday night against top-ranked Albertus Magnus. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
