Purchase, NY (Feb. 23, 2014) – Sunday afternoon was a ceremonious one indeed for the Purchase College women's basketball team, which not only won on "Jess Day," as the team honored seniors Jess Lindsay and Jessica Bullock on Senior Day, but also watched as standout newcomer Jazmin Garcia set a modern Panther single-game record for the women's program in a 77-44 drumming of St. Joseph's College-LI.

Garcia (JR/Peekskill, NY) scored 39 points, topping the previous bench mark set by Jessie Domes – 35 points against the College of New Rochelle in 2006. Other Panther greats like Jen Danio, Alyssa Guido, Domes and Lindsay have tallied 30-point games. Garcia, who scored 31 earlier this season, went 14 of 19 from the field, connecting on 11 of 12 free throws for a modern record 39 points in 32 minutes since Purchase returned to NCAA membership in 2006.

The junior center's breakout performance also came with several alum on hand for "Jess Day," including – ironically – Jessie Domes herself.

Perhaps the ceremony was just the spark Garcia and the Panthers needed. Sports Information Director Bobby Ciafardini MCed the brief ceremony, calling out seniors Bullock and Lindsay, who were met at center court by family and friends and then fondly recalled by teammate Jeidar Cole (JR/Bronx, NY), who made a moving speech about the contributions of two key leaders and memorable players to come through the ranks over the past few seasons. Bullock's mother, Sandra, and father, Henri IV, and brother, Henri V met Bullock at midcourt before being introduced by Ciafardini. Lindsay was joined by her parents, Rob and Tammy and other members of her extended family.

The team decorated the courts in honor of the seniors as balloons and other signs dressed the gym, reading "Jess Day!!!"  At the conclusion of the brief ceremony, PA announcer Donatello M. Demeo introduced Bullock for a rousing rendition of the National Anthem and the ceremony was complete, paving the way for a memorable afternoon on the hardwood for Garcia and the Panthers.

Purchase led 44-25 at the break and scored 33 more points in the second half en route to a comfortable win. They shot 40 percent for the game and outrebounded the Golden Eagles (43-41), while also limiting their turnovers and collecting 14 steals.

Two other players joined Garcia in double figures offensively as Lindsay added 11 and Elizabeth Osowiecki (SO/Franklin Square, NY) chipped in 10. Bullock finished with six in her final regular-season home game. Purchase will now advance to the playoffs and depending on the final seeding, which will become available later tonight, could host the league semifinals on Thursday. Regardless, the Panthers have clinched one of the top four seeds needed to move on to postseason play. They came into Sunday's action tied for second place in the conference standings.
