Purchase, NY (Mar. 2, 2014) – The men's volleyball team hosted their annual Skyline Conference quad-match at home Sunday, yielding a split of two league matches with Ramapo College and Yeshiva University.

The day kicked off at 10 a.m, with the Panthers starting on court one to take on Ramapo. In addition to Ramapo and Yeshiva, Kean University also took part in the matchup, winning both of its tilts on the day. Kean defeated Yeshiva (3-1) in the opener on court two and also won the late match 3-1 against Ramapo in a battle for first place.

As a result, Ramapo would split its two contests and Yeshiva finished the afternoon at 0-2.

The Panthers lost in three straights to Ramapo and swept Yeshiva in the noon start. In the opener, Ramapo posted a 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 win. Purchase capped the day in an exciting back-and-forth contest with the Macs, where the Panthers earned a 27-15, 25-17, 25-23 final.

Kevon Kareem Bruce (SR/Hayes, Jamaica) paced Purchase in both matches. He recorded nine kills and eight digs against Ramapo before totaling 20 against YU. Kevin Carges (FR/Brockport, NY) added six kills in the opener and followed that with 14 in the win. He also recorded 12 digs in the second match, sharing the team lead with Riley Damerell (FR/Rochester, NY). Damerell also played well in both matches, netting eight kills over the two, while adding 11 assists in the match against YU. Setter Andrew Schwab (FR/Merrick, NY) had 15 assists in the opener and another 28 in the finale.

Ramapo was led by a balanced attack in the opener, highlighted by eight kills from Ryan Casci. In the loss, the Maccabees were paced by Jared Rechnitz, who finished with 10 kills.

"Many of the teams in our conference are just getting to the heart of the league schedule and all of these matches are important," Purchase head coach Tom Callahan said after the quad-match. "We turned in a nice performance today and we'll take the split. I was extremely pleased with Kevon, Riley and Kevin and I think this was a good day for us. We'll look to keep building in conference play."

The Panthers are now 4-7 overall and 2-3 in league play. They return to action Tuesday at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
