(Mar. 29, 2014) – Mount Saint Mary posted a twin bill sweep Saturday at Purchase. The Knights won 10-2 and 9-2, respectively.
In the process, MSMC improved to 10-6 overall and remains undefeate4d in conference play at 6-0. Purchase, which was playing at home as the visiting team with all of the inclement weather changes to the schedule, is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline.
The Knights got on the board first in the morning game when center fielder Sabrina Gordek hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring catcher Stephanie Karcher from third to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Knights added another pair of runs in the third on an error and an RBI single by shortstop Breanna DePasquale to go up, 3-0, after three.
Purchase got back in the game in the fourth, scoring a pair of runs on bases-loaded walks to cut the deficit to one run. But MSMC would open things up later as an Ashley Peel home run made it 8-2.
Rookie
Mary Adams (FR/Milton, PA) knocked in a run for the Panthers in a 1-for-1 effort.
ToniAnn Licata (JR/Mount Kisco, NY) plated the other run.
The Knights got off to a quicker start in game two, picking up three quick runs in the bottom of the first.
Purchase got a run back in the third on a Licata single that scored Adams from second. The Knights made up the difference and added another in the home half of the inning before once again opening things up in the middle innings, stretching the lead to 5-1.
However, the Panthers cut into the Knights' lead again in the fourth, when
Christine Leo (SR/Monroe, CT) picked up an RBI single.
The Knights rebounded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back.
MSMC starter Amanda Barrese picked up her third win of the season in game two, working the complete seven innings and striking out eight batters.
Leo went 1 for 2 with an RBI to lead the Panthers in game two. Licata also added an RBI in a 1-for-4 showing. Adams and
Briana Leon (FR/Glen Cove, NY) each went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
