(Apr. 1, 2014) – Western Connecticut used strong performances in singles and doubles play to top the Purchase men's tennis team by an 8-1 score in a non-conference match at home on Tuesday.
Purchase managed just one win on the day, coming thanks to a second singles performance by
Dylan DeBiase (SR/High Falls, NY). DeBiase bested Colonials' Chris Turner by a score of 6-2, 6-0.
At first singles,
Riley Damerell (FR/Rochester, NY) lost a hard-fought match, 7-6, 6-3, to Brian Buckmen.
Pocholo Chavez (SR/Stony Point, NY) also gave a trying effort against William Donahue at third singles but came up short to lose both sets 6-4.
Western Connecticut swept in doubles action, taking home wins at the first, second and third positions.
DeBiase and Damerell partnered up at first-doubles to face-off Turner and Buckmen, but struggled to keep up with the Colonial offense, who went on to win with a score of 8-6.
Donahue and Ricardo Fuentes topped Chavez and
Danny De La Cruz (FR/Bronx, NY), 8-3, at second doubles and Jason Hipona and Daniel Winter rallied in an 8-4 victory over
Lev Pravda (SO/New York, NY) and
Jason Wieder (JR/Bayside, NY) at the third seed.
The Panthers head to Troy, NY on Thursday for a conference match against Sage College at 4:30 p.m.
