Purchase, NY (Apr. 16, 2014) – A wintry mix Tuesday night – one that included some late spring season snow – wasn't enough to slow the Panthers ground crew Wednesday as the Purchase College softball team returned to action on a chilly afternoon at home, welcoming Sarah Lawrence for a twin bill.

The Panthers weren't slowed either on the diamond, bouncing back from a pair of doubleheader defeats over the weekend to topple Sarah Lawrence, a developing program moving into the Skyline Conference officially next year. Purchase won the opener 14-1 and took the second game 13-1. The Gryphons fell to 0-16.

Purchase improved to 5-15 in the doubleheader sweep.

In game one, Purchase loaded the bases in the first, highlighted by a double from Christine Leo (SR/Monroe, CT), a walk and a hit batsman. A two-run error brought home the first two runs. Nicole Fortuna (FR/New Rochelle, NY) singled and Amanda Green (FR/Roslyn Heights, NY) walked in the game's third run. Another error plated the fourth run before April Uhl (FR/Jackson Heights, NY) doubled in two more. Shortly later, a walk would bring in the sixth run.

The Panthers never looked back in the opener. They scored three runs in the third and five more in the fourth, backed by a three-run homer by Mary Adams (FR/Milton, PA) that broke open the game.

Sarah Lawrence scratched across a run in the fifth, but the damage had already been done. The Panthers closed out the win as Fortuna earned the victory in the circle.

Game one offensive leaders for Purchase included Leo, Green and Adams. Leo and Adams accounted for five of the team's 11 hits. Adams delivered five RBI and Leo added two of her own. Uhl also collected two RBI in the win.

Game two brought more of the same for the Panthers. Purchase opened with three runs in the first behind a pair of doubles from Adams and Fortuna, who stayed hot at the plate. The Panthers then blew the game open in the second inning, aided by four errors from the visitors. The big hits in that inning came off the bats of Fortuna and Tara Stiansen (SO/Hampton Bays, NY), who each doubled. Adams added her second hit of the game as Purchase took a commanding 9-0 margin after two.

Fortuna settled in on the mound and continued her impressive afternoon of pitching. She did not allow a hit until the third – an infield single.

Purchase kept scoring in the fourth. Four more runs on six hits extended the lead to 13-0. Briana Leon (FR/Glen Cove, NY), Fortuna – both of whom doubled in runs – and Juliet-Rain Pagan (SR/Bronx, NY) collected big hits in that frame, with Pagan's single bringing in two more.

The Gryphons scored one run after that, but Purchase closed the 13-1 win in the fifth, as it had in the opener, retiring the side in another shortened victory. Fortuna picked up the game-two win.

The Panthers will be back in action Friday at home against SJC-BKLYN. Purchase wraps the season with twin bills against FSC, Cobleskill and York, the latter of which conclude next week.
