Panthers Conclude Season with Doubleheader Sweep Over York

Purchase, NY (Apr. 22, 2014) – Pitching ace ToniAnn Licata earned two wins while driving in three home runs to lead the Purchase College softball team to a season finale doubleheader sweep over York College Tuesday afternoon.

Purchase took game one by a 5-3 score and rolled to a 14-0 victory in five innings in game two. 

In game one, the Panthers used a two-run third inning to blow the game open before finishing off the win in the latter innings.

Amanda Green (FR/Roslyn Heights, NY) got things started for Purchase by drawing a walk prior to a Christine Leo (SR/Monroe, CT) RBI double which brought Green in to score the first run of the game.

Leo went on to total a game-high four hits in four at bats, including two doubles. 

Nicole Fortuna (FR/New Rochelle, NY) started on the mound for Purchase. The rookie pitcher allowed only three hits and three runs while striking out three in six innings of action.

In game two, Licata (JR/Mount Kisco, NY) went 3 for 3 with three longballs, while Leo picked up another three hits off four at bats, including a one-run triple in the second. 

The Panthers opened up the first inning with a bang, totaling five runs, three of which came off Licata's first homer. 

Purchase then totaled another impressive nine runs in the bottom of the second. 

Board leaders included Mary Adams (FR/Milton, PA) and Juliet-Rain Pagan (SR/Bronx, NY), who each went 2 for 3 with one RBI.  Teammates April Uhl (FR/Jackson Heights, NY), Briana Leon (FR/Glen Cove, NY) and Christina Sanderson (SR/Schaghticoke, NY) each went 1 for 2 on the afternoon. Leon also totaled a standout four RBI.

Licata pitched all five innings for Purchase, earning her second win of the season. She allowed only three hits and three walks while striking out two. 

The Panthers conclude their season with an overall record of 10-18 while remaining 1-12 in the Skyline Conference.
