Providence, RI (Jan. 26, 2015) – The Purchase men's volleyball team took to the road this weekend to kick off the 2015 season at the Johnson and Whales Invitational at the Wildcat Center. The Panthers went 0-4, falling 3-0 to JWU and Keuka College on Friday and losing 3-0 to Cairn University and Lasell College on Saturday.
Junior Chase Lokke (Granite Bay, CA) led the Panther offense against JWU with a hitting percentage of .333, killing five of his nine total attack attempts. Setter Kevin Egbert (JR/Saratoga Springs, NY) handed out 12 assists, while rookie Andy Tang (FR/Brooklyn, NY) added a match-high six digs defensively. The line score for the contests read 25-6, 25-13, 27-25 in favor of the host.
Against Keuka, Kevin Carges (SO/Brockport, NY) led the books with a match-high 11 kills and team-high eight digs. Egbert totaled a game-high 17 assists while teammate Riley Damerell (SO/Rochester, NY) added to the effort with four assists and five digs. Keuka went on to win the match with a line score of 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.
Purchase returned to action on Saturday against Cairn. The three set affair had a line score of 28-26, 25-17, 25-13. Carges paced the Panther attack with a match-high 14 kills on 31 attempts. He added nine digs along the way with Egbert contributing another eight as well as dishing out 22 assists.
Purchase's final match of the weekend was against Lasell. Despite losing 25-16, 25-11, 25-17, the Panthers still played an impressive match all-around. Damerell had a match-high seven kills, Carges tallied a team-high seven digs and Egbert handed out an impressive 17 assists.
The Panthers, now 0-4, look to rebound tomorrow when they travel to Brooklyn College for a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
