(Feb. 11 2015) – Men's basketball flashed a great start Wednesday night, but could not sustain the lead over 40 minutes, falling to top-seeded Sage, 101-75.
Sage took an early lead in the first half, but the home Panthers would fight to stay in the game. An alley-oop dunk by guard
Nicholas Jackson (JR/Brooklyn, NY) ignited the home team, sparking a run that would bring Purchase within two points
At the halfway point of the first half, a steal and a layup by
Troy singleton (JR/Queens, NY) would knot the game at 23, but the resilient Gators still would not let up, pushing on to take a seven-point lead.
After an intense run by the home Panthers,
Jose Reyes (JR/Bronx, NY) would knock down back to back 3s that regained the lead.
Purchase held a 49-48 lead at the break.
The second half was a different story with Sage rallying for the double-digit win.
Reyes would lead all Purchase scorers with 18 point.
Kendall Felix (SR/Brooklyn, NY), who was celebrating his birthday, added eight points and four rebounds.
The Gators were paced by Kai Deans and Andre Robinson, who scored 29 and 33 points apiece.
Sage is now 12-3 in conference and 18-4 overall.
Purchase drops to 7-7 in conference and 7-14 overall.
The Panthers will travel to SUNY Maritime Saturday.
