Men’s Basketball Topples Second-Place CMSV

Person Lifts Panthers in Impressive Double-Double Effort

Justin Person scored14 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in a double-double effort.

Purchase, NY (2/17/15) – The Purchase College men's basketball team notched its second straight conference win Tuesday night, delivering an 83-69 drumming of the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
 
The Panthers, which lost to CMSV (16-8, 12-5 Skyline Conference) on the road in Riverdale during the last meeting with the Dolphins, were in control in the second half following a slow start.
 
Purchase (9-14, 9-7) trailed 7-1 in the opening minutes. That lead stretched to 10-3. Despite being down seven points, the Panthers reeled off six straight to close the gap to one.  
 
Purchase took its first lead at 16-15 with 11:07 left in the first half and later extended it to 23-15.
 
Center Kendall Felix (SR/Brooklyn, NY) got some good looks and the home squad went up by 13 with less than three minutes left to play in the half.
 
The Dolphins responded, however, in the second half with a run of their own. CMSV went on a 14-0 run in the first four minutes, regaining the lead for the first time since early in the first half.
 
The Panthers stayed aggressive on the offensive glass, which later led to a 3 by Purchase point guard Jose Reyes (JR/Bronx, NY).
 
Taylor Foster (JR/Greenburgh, NY) was able to convert on a three-point play later on, pushing the Purchase lead to 57-50 with eight minutes left in the game.
 
Foster and Justin Person (SR/Greenburgh, NY) scored back-to-back layups and the Panthers started to regain momentum.
 
Foster had a nice assist to Jackson for a dunk, putting Purchase up, 70-60.
 
Person, Creig Graves (JR/Harlem, NY), Nicholas Jackson (JR/Brooklyn, NY) and Foster led the way for Purchase.
 
Person had 14 points, a game-high 19 rebounds and five assists.
 
Graves collected 11 points, four boards and a steal.
 
Jackson, who flashed some highlight reel plays, tallied 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Foster compiled 15 points, four boards, six assists and two blocks.

Felix chipped in four points and seven rebounds. Fellow starter Troy Singleton (JR/Queens, NY) tallied nine points.

The Panther bench also looked sharp, with Michael Pelham (SO/Spring Valley, NY) recording six points and six rebounds.
 
The home team out-rebounded the Dolphins, 47-25.
 
James Zuccaro, Jesse Regina and Madison Martinez paced the Dolphins.
 
Zucarro finished with 11 points, a team-high 12 rebounds, five assists and a game-high three steals. Regina followed up with a team-high 12 points, one rebound and two assists. Martinez added 10 points, two boards and one assist.
 
The Panthers will take the hardwood again on Thursday night, hosting the Mount Saint Mary Knights on Senior Night.
