(Feb. 21, 2015) – With an eye on Tuesday's postseason opener, the Purchase College men's basketball team rested some of their starters and played a larger rotation Saturday against visiting Old Westbury.
OW capitalized in a matchup of two playoff-bound teams, winning 63-53 in a game that didn't affect the conference's tournament standings. Purchase enters Tuesday's quarterfinal as the sixth seed, while OW is fourth.
Purchase finishes the regular season at 9-16, including 9-9 in conference play. OW is 12-13, including 12-6 in the league.
Both Teams looked evenly matched in the first half, resulting in a low-scoring defensive battle.
Center Luckens Victor had eight points and seven rebounds for the visitors, who took a 27-21 lead into halftime.
The visiting Panthers pushed their lead to double digits in the second half.
Purchase battled and chipped the deficit down to single digits in the waning minutes of the game.
The host Panthers narrowly won the battle of the boards (40-36) to stay in the game. Center
Kendall Felix (SR/Brooklyn, NY) totaled eight rebounds in defeat.
Old Westbury's Omari Trebuse led all scorers with 10 points.
Troy Singleton (JR/Queens, NY) led Purchase with nine points.
