Panthers Drop Road Match to Lehman

Bronx, NY (March 19, 2015) – Purchase men's volleyball dropped a non-conference match to Lehman College, 3-0, on Thursday evening at the APEX Main Gym.  Set scores were 25-23, 25-15, and 25-15.

Outside hitter Kevin Carges (SO/Brockport, NY) accounted for 13 of Purchase's 27 kills.  He also totaled three service aces, six digs and two blocks, while Riley Damerell (SO/Rochester, NY) tallied 11 kills, four digs, one service ace and one block in the effort.  Andrew Schwab (SO/Merrick, NY) totaled a team-high 11 digs and three blocks while Kevin Egbert (JR/Saratoga Springs, NY) chipped in with 20 assists and four digs.

The first set was tight throughout, as Lehman trailed Purchase 15-14. Lehman scored the next four points, highlighted by kills from Segura, Jimenez, and Lino to take the lead, 18-15. Later in the set, Lino tallied back-to-back kills to put Lehman at set point, 24-20. After the Panthers (5-12) scored the next three points, Lehman finally clinched the set on a service error from Purchase.

The Lightning cruised to a victory in the second set, as Lehman scored the last three points, thanks to kills from Abugharbieh, Segura, and Gallardo.

In the third set, Lehman dominated early by scoring six unanswered points, highlighted by kills from Lino and Abugharbieh, to take an 8-2 lead. Up 19-14, the Lightning added to their lead by scoring five points in a row, capped off by a kill from Segura, to put Lehman at match point. In the last rally of the contest, Gallardo set up Jimenez, who slammed home a kill to clinch the set and hand the Lightning their 11th win of the season.

The Lightning (11-9) were led by junior Jaleel Lino, who tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs, while having a hitting percentage of .407. Freshman Carlos Segura added nine kills with seven digs, while junior Ramon Jimenez produced seven kills and had a hitting percentage of .545.

The Panthers return to their home court on Sunday for a tri-match against The Sage Colleges and Ramapo College starting at 10 a.m.
