(March 29, 2015) – Behind impressive pitching, Mount Saint Mary earned a sweep of Purchase Sunday at Blind Brook.
The Knights (6-6, 2-0 Skyline Conference) took the first game 13-0 and then won 12-0 in the second, posting back-to-back one hitters. Colleen Dunn pitched the opener for MSMC, striking out nine. Cindy Connoly struck out 10 in the second game for the visitors.
MSMC was paced offensively in the opener by first baseman Michelle Surdan, who recorded six RBI on three hits, including two home runs.
Nicole Fortuna (SO/New Rochelle, NY) had the lone hit for the Panthers. She also pitched the second game, taking the loss, despite a good start to the matchup in the circle.
Danielle Soto was the offensive leader in game for the Knights. She went 2 for 3 with three RBI, backing Connoly, who did not allow a hit or a base runner until the bottom of the fifth when
ToniAnn Licata (SR/Mount Kisco, NY) broke up the perfect game with an infield single.
Defensively, Fortuna made a nice grab in center field for the Panthers in game one; short stop
Mary Adams (SO/Milton, PA) snared a line drive in game one; and left fielder
Shannon Clancy (FR/Babylon, NY) made a brilliant catch in foul territory in game two.
The Panthers (3-7, 0-6) will look to rebound tomorrow at Lehman College.
