(March 30, 2015) – The Purchase men's volleyball team rallied to a 3-2 victory over non-conference College of Staten Island to close out the 2015 season. The win came by a set of 25-22, 21-25, 24-26, 25-22 and 15-6.
A trio of Panthers recorded double-digit kills with sophomore
Kevin Carges (Brockport, NY) leading Purchase's attack with 25 kills while teammates
Riley Damerell (SO/Rochester, NY) and
Andrew Schwab (SO/Merrick, NY) added 20 kills and 11 kills, respectively. Junior
Kevin Egbert (Saratoga Springs, NY) passed out a career-high 57 assists and contributed eight digs to the defensive effort. Carges chipped in with 12 digs while junior
Matthew McCarthy (Fayetteville, NY) totaled an impressive match-high 20 digs and
Griffin Rapp (FR/Rochester, NY) added in four blocks on the defensive side of the net.
Purchase came out swinging in the final two frames. The Panthers totaled 16 kills in the fourth set alone, including the set winning kill by Damerell, assisted by Egbert. In the fifth set, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Four attacking errors and two service errors from the Dolphins ended the game, 15-6, in favor of the Panthers.
The Panthers finish the season with a 10-17 overall record and 4-10 in the Skyline Conference. Purchase's 10 total wins mark the most in the program in program history.
