Purchase, NY (Mar. 7, 2015) – Despite a strong showing Saturday at home, Purchase fell to Kean and Mount Saint Vincent in a pair of matches as part of a tri-match.

The Kean Cougars beat the home team 25-13, 25-19 and 25-11. The Dolphins were victorious over the Panthers 25-13, 27-29, 25-18 and 25-7 in the afternoon finale. Kean also defeated CMSV in the middle match of the day.

After Kean took an early 4-1 lead in the second set, the Panthers clawed back to tie the score, forcing a Cougar timeout in the opener. Later on, the visitors started to regain momentum to take a three-point lead. Kean jumped in front 20-14. Purchase came within four, but was unable to sustain it. The Cougars went up 10-1 early in the third set en route to closing the opener.

Purchase was led by Kevin Carges (SO/Brockport, NY) and Kevin Egbert (JR/Saratoga Springs, NY). Carges spiked seven kills, handed one service ace and registered 11 digs and one block. Egbert had 17 assists and three digs.

In the second contest of the tri match, Kean went up 9-2 early in the first set against the Mount, staring with the same potency they did against the Panthers.

CMSV caught up after being down for most of the set, but fell short after the Cougars won 25-19. The Dolphins took a tightly contested second set, 25-23.

The third set started the same way the second did, with a 6-4 CMSV lead early on. The Cougars reemerged, taking a 13-8 lead later in the stanza, forcing a Dolphins timeout. Kean came out especially strong toward the end of the set, but the Dolphins made the Cougars work for their last points of the set, until they lost 25-19.

The third and final match was between the Panthers and the Dolphins. CMSV started the first set off strong, taking an early 15-8 advantage.

After being down 2-0 early in the second set, the Panthers were able to go up by four. Carges provided the impetus for the Purchase run with a kill to put the Panthers up 10-5. The home team looked strong to start the second set, doing it on both sides of the net, but the Dolphins came back to make it 19-18 until Carges had another kill.

The third stanza was back-and-forth, with the Panthers being down early. They then pulled to within three and eventually the Dolphins went up 16-10.

The visiting team went up 7-1 early on in the fourth set. Eventually, CMSV forced the Panthers to burn their last timeout of the stanza, going up 15-5, capping the win.
