(April 12, 2015) – The Purchase men's tennis team swept back-to-back road matches over the past two days, defeating Skyline Conference opponents Sarah Lawrence and Mount Saint Mary College both by a score of 9-0.
With the wins, Purchase advances to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the league action.
On Saturday, the Panthers snapped a Gryphons two-game winning streak with the 9-0 shutout at Andrews Courts.
After sweeping the doubles play, Purchase tallied wins at each of the singles positions, including
Dylan DeBiase's (SR/High Falls, NY), 6-3, 6-0, win over Skyline Rookie of the Week Andre Garibaldi at the No. 2 spot. At No. 1 singles,
Riley Damerell (SO/Rochester, NY) defeated Elliott Warkus, 6-2, 6-0, and at the No. 4 spot, rookie ace
Cedric Bluman (SR/Tarrytown, NY) tallied his seventh win of the season after a 6-, 6-0, sweep over Roland Wynter.
Bluman continued the winning streak to eight and furthered his undefeated record at Mount Saint Mary on Sunday with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Connor Gargan.
Sunday's scoring was opened up with a
Bluman and Joseph Troop (JR/Yonkers, NY) 8-2 win at second singles. Damerella and DeBiase made it 2-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and brothers Chisei and
Taimu Tomita (FR/Higashiyama,Japan) rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-3 win at the No. 3 spot.
Purchase kept the momentum going in singles play, earning wins at all six spots. The victory over Mount Saint Mary marked the first in five years.
The Panthers return to their home court on Tuesday for a Skyline match against The Sage Colleges starting at 4 p.m.
