(April 16, 2015) – FDU-Florham senior Mitch Gettis notched career victory number 50 but the Devils men's tennis team was unable to come away with the victory, falling 5-4 to Purchase College on Thursday afternoon.
This was the sixth straight win for Panthers as they are now 8-2 on the season.
Purchase tallied wins at first and second doubles but dropped second doubles by a score of 8-2.
Riley Damerell (SO/Rochester, NY) and
Dylan DeBiase (SR/High Falls, NY) defeated Chris Ly and Max Moscowitz, 8-5, at the No. 1 spot while
Noah Marthaller (FR/Canadaigua, NY) and
Danny De La Cruz (SO/Bronx, NY) bested Dylan Meyler and Sebastian Gall, 8-2, at the No. 3 spot.
The Panthers earned the 5-4 edge over the Devils with wins at third, fourth and fifth singles. At the No. 3 spot,
Taimu Tomita (FR/Higashiyama, Japan) defeated Ly, 6-1, 6-2, and at the No. 4 spot,
Chisei Tomita (FR/Higashiyama, Japan) shutout Steven Serras, 6-0, 6-0, respectively. De La Cruz rounded out the scoring for Purchase with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Matt Adapoe at fifth singles.
The Panthers are back at home tomorrow with a non-conference match against York College. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
