(April 17, 2015) – The Purchase men's tennis team swept singles and doubles play for a 9-0 victory over non-conference York College Friday afternoon. The win marked Panthers' seventh in a row as they advance to 9-2 on the season.
Purchase led 3-0 after doubles play and clinched the team victory two matches into singles action.
Riley Damerell (SO/Rochester, NY) and
Dylan DeBiase (SR/High Falls, NY) won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles,
Joseph Troop (JR/Yonkers, NY) and
Cedric Bluman (SR/Tarrytown, NY) won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and
Noah Marthaller (FR/Canadaigua, NY) and
Danny De La Cruz (SO/Bronx, NY) won by forfeit at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Troop defeated Hasnain Khatri, 10-2, at the No. 1 spot while Bluman and
Taimu Tomita (FR/Higashiyama, Japan) each earned 10-0 shutout wins at second and third singles.
Chisei Tomita (FR/Higashiyama, Japan) tallied a 10-2 victory over Felix Liew at the No. 4 spot, De La Cruz downed Shun Ramnauth, 10-1, at No. 5 singles, and the final Panther points was earned by a Cardinal forfeit at sixth singles.
Purchase returns to action at home Monday with a non-conference match against Oneonta State. Match time is 3:30 p.m.
