(April 18, 2015) – Purchase showed its mettle in a doubleheader defeat to playoff contender Farmingdale State Saturday at home.
After the Panthers dropped the opener 12-1, Purchase rebounded in a narrow 2-1 loss, putting the tying run on in the bottom of the seventh in a classic game.
FSC improved to 17-11 overall and 8-3 in the Skyline Conference, escaping with the Game 2 win. Marissa Monaco and Meghan Acton both collected three hits apiece in Game 1, accounting for six of the team's 17 hits in the opener. Lori Michalowski was the RBI leader with three in the first win. She homered and helped the Rams start strong.
The Panthers dropped to 8-14 overall and 4-10 in the league. They totaled five hits in Game 1, highlighted by two hits from
Alexandra Prescia (JR/Staten Island, NY) and one from
Alyssa Saulle (FR/Staten Island, NY), who brought home the lone run in defeat.
In Game 2, Purchase totaled seven hits, including two from rising rookie
Shannon Clancy (FR/Babylon, NY) and two from
Briana Leon (SO/Glen Cove, NY).
The Rams were led by Michelle Mongiello and Ally Mancini, who each notched an RBI apiece in the close victory.
The Rams led 1-0 after two innings, but Purchase scored a single run in the third to tie the game before FSC forged ahead in the fifth, scoring the final run of the game.
The Panthers return to action Sunday at York College.
