(April 7, 2015) – A persistent rain put a damper on Tuesday's twin bill between Purchase and SUNY Cobleskill, but the two teams were at least able to get the opener in at Pace University before Game 2 was called off due to the soggy conditions.
The Fighting Tigers captured the first game 17-9, utilizing two, five-run innings in the first and third to come away with the victory.
The Panthers showed their mettle in the loss, posting three straight scoring innings to open the game, including two in the first and second, and three more in the third, but Cobleskill managed to pull away over the final three innings of the six-inning decision, scoring seven late runs when the Panthers had closed the gap to 10-7.
The visitors improved to 6-1 in the non-conference game and were led by Madeline DeMilio and Julia Lull, who each recorded three hits, and two and three RBI, respectively. Cobleskill collected 14 hits as a team. Pinch hitter Jessica Massi hit a three-run home run late in the game that helped seal the victory for Cobleskill.
Brianne Gray earned the win in the circle for the Fighting Tigers.
The Panthers are now 4-8.
Purchase totaled seven hits, highlighted by two RBI from
Amanda Green (SO/Roslyn Heights, NY),
Mary Adams (SO/Milton, PA) and
ToniAnn Licata (SR/Mount Kisco, NY).
Game two opened with a three-run Panther lead heading into the second inning before the umpires ruled the field unplayable. It does not count as an official game. The two teams are not expected to replay Game 2 of the non-conference matchup.
Purchase returns to action Thursday against Hunter College – weather permitting – and then again this weekend on the road at Sarah Lawrence (Saturday) and Sage (Sunday). Thursday's home game is slated for the Purchase campus.
