(March 22, 2016) – The Purchase men's tennis team put in a strong showing to down Brooklyn College, 7-2, Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Panthers advance to 5-2 overall while the Bulldogs drop to an overall record of 1-1.
Purchase jumped out to an early lead, tallying wins at first and third doubles. The Panther duo of
Riley Damerell (JR/Rochester, NY) and
Joseph Troop (SR/Yonkers, MY) downed the visiting Jonathan Chevinsky and Ashley Mattieu, 8-1, at the No. 1 spot while rookies
Finbar Stuart (FR/Woodstock, NY) and
Brian Doherty (FR/Mattituck, NY) won by default at the No. 3 position.
The Panthers went on to collect five more wins in singles action. Damerell and Troop swept the No. 1 and 2 spots by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
Danny De La Cruz (JR/Bronx, NY) and
Noah Marthaller (SO/Canadaigua, NY) battled for wins at third and fourth singles, while Stuart rounded out the Panther scoring with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Albert Benjamin at the No. 5 spot.
The Panthers are back at their home court again on Thursday with a non-conference match against Lehman College.
