Box Score Purchase, NY
(March 24, 2016) – The Purchase College men's tennis team coasted past non-conference rival Lehman College Thursday evening, winning 8-1 to improve to 6-2 on the spring.
The Panthers dispatched the visiting Lightning, a team that dropped to 0-6, but was much better than their record reflected. Purchase swept the doubles and capped the late afternoon match on a chilly, windy day on campus by winning five of the six singles matches played. Lehman captured the second singles as Jason Strudwick outlasted
Joseph Troop (SR/Yonkers, NY) in the final match of the day.
Purchase hosted Lehman on Spring Break Thursday. Several fans came out to see the Panthers take on the Lightning.
The lineup did not disappoint.
No. 1 doubles pairing,
Riley Damerell (JR/Rochester, NY) and Troop pulled out a strong win at the top of the order, edging Carlo Francisco and Strudwick, 8-6. That win moved Purchase to up 3-0 after the Panthers captured wins at second and third doubles.
Danny De La Cruz (JR/Bronx, NY) and
Noah Marthaller (SO/Canadaigua, NY) won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and Finbar Stuart (FR/Woodstock, NY) and Isaac Lee (FR/New York, NY) earned a comfortable 8-1 victory at No. 3. In singles, Damerell made it a perfect day, winning 6-3, 6-1 against Francisco at No. 1, while De La Cruz sailed, 6-2, 6-3 at third singles. Marthaller followed at four and won 6-0, 6-1 over Frankelly Ortiz. Stuart swept his singles match, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Brian Doherty (FR/Mattituck, NY) topped Christopher Valez 6-2, 6-1 to complete the dominating win.
Red-hot Purchase has now won four straight.
