Purchase, NY (Sept. 23, 2016) – The Purchase men's tennis team opened up the fall portion of their 2016-17 season with an 8-1 win over Western Connecticut State University Friday afternoon.

The Panthers opened up action with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play.  Senior Riley Damerell (SR/Rochester, NY) and freshman
James Ham (Rye, NY) led the Panthers with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Danny De La Cruz (SR/Bronx, NY) and Isaac Jones (FR/Ossining, NY) picked up an 8-2 win at the No. 2 spot.    

Damerell, Jones and De La Cruz went on to post wins at first, second and third singles, respectively.

Western Connecticut's Matt O'Keefe tallied the visitor's only win of the day after battling to a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 victory at the No. 5 singles spot.
