(Mar. 24, 2018) – The Purchase College men's team opened up Skyline Conference action at home this afternoon with a 7-2 loss to Mount Saint Mary College.
The Panthers dropped all three doubles matches, but picked up two wins in the singles portion of the contest. Purchase falls to an overall record of 0-3 (0-1 SKY), while the visiting Knights advance to 4-1 (1-0 SKY).
Finbar Stuart (JR/Woodstock, NY) and
Noah Marthaller (SR/Canandaigua, NY) were the lone Panthers to pick up wins. At the No. 5 spot, Stuart picked up his first singles win of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against the Mount's Charles BenferIn. Marthaller dominated at sixth singles with a score of 6-0, 6-2 against Armando Avila. The victory marked the first of the season for Marthaller as well.
Doubles action saw strength from both teams but MSMC ultimately stole the wins to take a 3-0 lead.
In singles, the No. 4 match was the first to finish. Jaden Tiriolo put the visitors ahead 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win. Matt Anastasi netted the match-winner with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at first singles.
Purchase looks to rebound back when they take on league opponent St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) this Wednesday (Mar. 28) at 3:30 p.m.
