Flushing Meadows, NY (Mar. 6, 2018) – The Purchase men's tennis team took to the road and opened up 2018 action against Baruch College Tuesday afternoon. The host Bearcats defeated the Panthers, 9-0, in the non-conference matchup at the Billie Jean King U.S. National Tennis Center.

Baruch (1-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition. The Bearcats kept the momentum going in singles play en route to the team's first victory of the season.  

Leonard Margolis, who was named the CUNYAC Player of the Week on Monday, won at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1, while Marco Gobbato defeated Brian Doherty (JR/Mattituck, NY), 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot. 

At sixth singles, Judah Wertenteil helped clinch the shutout with an impressive comeback against PC's Changhun Park (JR/Seoul, Korea).

Marco Gobbato, Lewis Pena, Michael Dozortsev and rookies Clement Lacoudre and Jeremy Berman were also victorious in their contests.

With first-year head coach Jordan Snider at the helm, Purchase is set to open home action on Sunday (Mar. 11) against Brooklyn College. The non-conference match is slated for 11:30 a.m.
