Panthers Change Location, Win ‘Noah’s’ Senior Night on the Road

Port Chester, NY (April 19, 2018) – Purchase's Noah Marthaller didn't need to be on campus to make the best of his senior match.

He may be the first Panther in history to have Senior Night played on the road. First, inclement weather derailed plans for "Senior Day" at Purchase against John Jay Thursday, moving the early 3:30 p.m. match indoors to Sound Shore Tennis in Port Chester, with a 5:30 p.m. start thanks to good old Mother Nature – plenty of rain and unfavorable tennis weather in the area.

But as head coach Jordan Snider wrote in a speech delivered by Sports Information Director Bobby Ciafardini, who MCed a brief pre-match ceremony for Marthaller (Canadaigua, NY) on Senior Night, Noah's career has been all about "grit."

And today was no different, as the Panther senior teamed for a doubles victory early in an eventual 8-1 non-conference win over the Bloodhounds (3-6). Purchase improved to 4-7 and about the only thing that didn't go to plan, aside from the weather, of course, was Marthaller having to exit early to go to class, meaning he would have to forfeit at No. 6 singles.

Nonetheless, the Panthers didn't need his performance in singles; his doubles win at No. 3 was enough to get them going early.

"We are playing against Baruch at the National Tennis Center … I talk to him on changeover and expecting his usual nonchalant attitude, he says, 'I'm so nervous,' Snider recalled in his speech read aloud by Ciafardini. "He went on to take the guy to a tiebreaker in the second set and lost, but showed a lot of grit.

"Noah congrats on your tennis career at Purchase, and we know you'll be just as successful in future endeavors," Ciafardini added. "Always remember, you're always a Panther, and you're always welcome to come home – whether that's at Purchase or a home rain site like Port Chester."

The Panthers went on to sweep all doubles matches.

Hope Crawford (FR/Mamaroneck, NY) highlighted the singles play, with a win at No. 1.
