(Apr. 27, 2018) – The Purchase College men's tennis team saw its 2018 season come to a close on Friday with a hard fought 6-3 non-conference loss to visiting Western Connecticut State University.
The match, which originally was to be played at Western earlier this month, was rescheduled as a Panther home contest and played at Sound Shore Indoor Tennis in Port Chester.
Freshman
Hope Crawford (Mamaroneck, NY) and senior
Noah Marthaller (Canandaigua, NY) each picked up singles wins for the Panthers.
Crawford moved to 6-2 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top flight against Colonial opponent Aaron Campos.
Marthaller earned his fourth singles win of the season for Purchase, outlasting Jeffrey Baker at the No.4 spot, 6-2, 6-3.
Purchase's lone doubles win came at the third spot from the duo of team captain
Brian Doherty (JR/Mattituck, NY) and
Changhun Park (JR/Seol, Korea). The pair defeated William Hogan and Shivam Patel, 8-6, to finish the season with a 3-1 doubles team record.
Friday's loss closes the Panthers' spring season at 4-8 overall. Western advances to 4-7 overall and is set to take on UMass-Boston tomorrow at 1 p.m.
