(Mar. 12, 2019) – The Purchase College men's tennis team picked up its second straight win of 2019 against Brooklyn College Tuesday afternoon. The host Panthers defeated the non-conference Bulldogs by a score of 6-3.
Purchase (2-0) captured two out of three doubles matches to jump out to a 2-1 lead. The Panthers' No. 1 doubles flight tandem of
Isaac Jones (JR/Ossining, NY) and
Courage Crawford (FR/Larchmont, NY) posted an 8-2 victory, while
James Ham (JR/Rye, NY) and
Finbar Stuart (SR/Woodstock, NY) teamed up for an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot.
At third doubles,
Austin Schmitt (JR/Hilton, NY) and
Changhun Park (SR/Seoul, Korea) battled
Remi Lawrence and Christian Pena but came up short, 8-4.
In singles play, Crawford was first to finish, recording a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. Jones gave Purchase a 4-1 advantage with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at second singles, and Ham secured the PC win with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the third flight.
Schmitt earned the sixth point for Purchase at No. 5 singles, defeating Samuel Meyerovich in an 8-game pro set, 8-6.
Brooklyn (0-1) earned wins at fourth and sixth singles. Andor Kasuba netted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Stuart at the No. 4 spot, while Pena bested Purchase senior captain
Brian Doherty (Mattituck, NY), 8-3, in an 8-game pro set at No. 6 singles.
Purchase is back in action this Friday with a non-conference road match at John Jay College.
