NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team breezed to a 9-0 win Friday evening, as the Panthers topped John Jay College in a non-conference road match.
With the result, the Panthers improved to 3-0 to start the 2019 season. Meanwhile, the Bloodhounds of John Jay fell to 0-1.
As the final score indicates, Purchase dominated start to finish. The guests opened the match by taking the doubles portion without much of a challenge. The duos of
Courage Crawford (FR/Larchmont, NY) /
Isaac Jones (JR/Ossining, NY) and
Austin Schmitt (JR/Hilton, NY) /
Matthew Waterhouse (FR/Massapequa Park) earned 8-3 wins, while
James Ham (JR/Rye, NY) and
Finbar Stuart (SR/Woodstock, NY) swept their contest, 8-0.
In singles, Jones, Ham, Stuart, Waterhouse and
Changhun Park (SR/ Seoul, South Korea) won their contests in two-set sweeps. The only non-sweep of the day came at No.1 singles, where Crawford lost the opening set, 6-2, before rallying back to win the next two, 6-3 and 10-3.
Up next for the Panthers is the start of Skyline Conference play, as the team travels to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn for March 31st. That contest is set to begin 3 p.m.
