(Mar. 8, 2019) – The Purchase College men's tennis team opened the 2019 season with a 9-0 shutout over the Pratt Institute Friday night.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead following doubles action. PC newcomer
Courage Crawford (FR/Larchmont, NY) teamed up with
James Ham (JR/Rye, NY) at the No. 1 spot. The doubles duo recorded an 8-3 victory against Pratt's Hobert Chen and Andrew Hyun. At No. 2 doubles,
Isaac Jones (JR/Ossining, NY) and
Finbar Stuart (SR/Woodstock, NY) cruised to an 8-0 shutout win over Houlin Fan and David Slezial, while
Austin Schmitt (JR/Hilton, NY) and team captain
Brian Doherty (SR/Mattituck, NY) completed the doubles sweep with a win at the third spot.
In singles play,
Changhun Park (SR/Seoul, Korea) and Schmitt were first to tally points for PC with wins at the No. 6 and 5 spots, respectively. Stuart earned Purchase the match decision and secured victory with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 4 singles.
At No. 3 singles, Ham netted at 6-1, 6-0 win over Fan. Jones downed Hyun, 6-1, 6-3, at second singles, and Crawford capped the shutout over Pratt with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot.
Purchase is back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 12) with its home opener against Brooklyn College starting at 3:30 p.m.
