NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team defeated Hunter College, 6-3, in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.
With the victory, the Panthers now stand at 8-2 on the year. Meanwhile, the Hawks of Hunter dropped to 3-8.
It didn't take the guests very long to wrap up the match, as they swept all three doubles matches and the first two singles contests to collect the necessary games needed for the win.Â
No. 3 doubles,
James Ham (JR/Rye, NY) and
Finbar Stuart (SR/Woodstock, NY), took their opening match, 8-5, while
Matthew Waterhouse (FR/Massapequa Park, NY) and
Austin Schmitt (JR/Hilton, NY) secured an 8-4 win in the No. 2 spot.
The duo ofÂ
Courage Crawford (FR/Larchmont, NY) and
Isaac Jones (JR/Ossining, NY)Â tallied the third win for the Panthers in the No.1 doubles spot, outlasting their opponents, 8-6.
In singles play, No. 2 Jones started with a 6-0, 1-0 (ret.) win, before No. 5 Stuart secured the team victory with a 6-2, 6-0 performance. Purchase's final individual win of the afternoon came courtesy of Ham at No. 4, as the Panthers took the overall match, 6-3.
Up next for the Panthers is another non-conference road match, as they take on Western Connecticut State on April 25th at 4 p.m.Â
